Season Highlights from Coach John Kertchem
This year the Dragons had quite the exciting times. Just after taking third place in the Warrenton Tournament, the girls had wins and losses in several tourneys and match play as well. However, they came out strong, securing seven wins in a row. The Dragons then went right on through all League and District games while capturing a seed to the first round of the State Championships.
The first round of States was played against the state's fourth-ranked team, the Central Linn Cougars. The Dragons played well, challenging the Cougs in a back-and-forth game playing up to a 20-20 tie, but lost the momentum with back-to-back service errors. Their final score was 25-21. Alas, state-level pressure took its toll at the service line as Dragon servers botched 11 serves in the match with the only two aces landing in game one. The Cougars wasted no time in letting out their claws and releasing their hammering middle hitter who slashed the Dragon court left and right. 25-11 and 25-15 were the sad scores that ended our season. But! Sad today, glad tomorrow! (Famous coach saying.)
