I have great enthusiasm for sports. Sports at Delphian were different than other places. Winning was nice, but there was something else to aim for. I learned the real meaning, a higher meaning, something deeper. There was a greater goal.
Sports are about trying things you are not familiar with. To push out of your comfort zone, whether it is painful or not, you must at least try it. That is the only way you will improve yourself. It is about being a better person, a more mature and able person. Our coach Lukas said, “Those changes are what have the best effect on your life—not the medals or awards you receive.”
After all, life is about growth, values and principles, and about improving who you are every day. Only after realizing this did I realize how much I had accomplished.
Delphian means a lot to me. The homey environment, the people, the wins and the losses, whether in sports or in class, were all part of the process. Now I know where the real value lies.
